My weekly newsletter will be sent out each Monday. I will have shorter notes like this one that point toward artists that I admire and some of my work. I have also set up an instagram account dontaylorart that will feature my art and pictures of “healing landscapes.”
First up is Lisa Rivers, who owns the Legacy Art Gallery in Beaufort, South Carolina. I love her use of vibrant colors that bring Gullah culture to life.
The painting in the picture of Lisa Rivers below is one of her many originals that are available for sale on the Legacy website.
There are numerous prints available at her site as well, such as this rooster, displayed on a wall.
Below are two of my earliest paintings, acrylic on 8 x 10 stretched canvas that I painted in Spring, 2021. I love this style and the freedom, or perhaps requirement, to use lots of color to bring to life Gullah culture. (my paintings are not for sale in the Legacy gallery highlighted above—I think that is obvious, but just to make sure!).
I will be writing lots more about what I have learned about Gullah Geechee history and culture and I love trying emulate this beautiful style of painting in my own work.
