Legacy Art Gallery in Beaufort, SC
I stopped by and met Lisa Rivers
An earlier newsletter described how much learning about Art and painting has transpired from admiring the work of artists online. Yesterday, I was in Beaufort, SC and went into this art gallery, and met the artist, Lisa Rivers and we had a nice chat about Art as helping us to understand our world and the business side of things. And her gallery is lovely.
As this semester closes and the third graduation under the shadow of the pandemic takes place, I have been feeling anxious, unsettled and peaceful. These three don’t really go together, but for me a sense of peace is trying to join anxiety by embracing limits of what I can do to make things better. My personality sees problems and then wants to get to a solution, a fix, and this can be useful. However, some things cannot be fixed, at least not in my sense of time and scope, and sometimes the best you can do is to define a problem and if it is your responsibility, own up to it.
One thing that I have been learning about painting is how different a given art work can look depending upon the context and setting. Below are two photos of the same painting, the darker one taken with the piece laying on a floor. The lighter one was taken sitting in an easel, backlit by the Sun.
We have to keep looking at things in different ways.

Wow that’s a difference!
Astonishing the difference in the very same painting! “We have to keep looking at things in different ways.”
The magic of art and our hearts to be able to perceive it all.
